Rain Stops India-Australia Pink Ball Test Match
This is India women's first day-night test match while Australia's second
The only test match between India and Australia women's teams has stopped due to rain. The Indian team has scored 114 runs with a loss of a wicket.
Smriti Mandhana (70*) and Poonam Raut (8*) had only 20 minutes on the ground after the start of the second session on an opening day, that the umpires stopped the play due to lightning. Soon after, heavy rain started. The match is being played at the Carrara Oval in Queensland, Australia.
Australia Won The Toss:
After winning the toss, Australia decided to bowl first. The Indian side got a steady start with openers Smriti Mandhana and Shefali Verma. In the 26th over, Shefali got out caught by Tahlia McGrath.
By that time, dark clouds had filled the sky, and lights were turned on.
Then came Poonam Raut on the crease. India's score was 93. But after the wicket fell, the scoreboard slowed down a bit. In the next 8 overs bowled before dinner, only 8 runs could be added to the scoreboard.
The players again went on to the ground after the dinner. Only 6.3 overs were bowled that the umpires decided to stop the play due to lightning. Soon after, heavy rain started.
This is the only test match during India touring Australia. The last they had played against each other was in 2006 which was a draw.
Also, this is the first day-night test experience for the Indian women's team, while Australia has played its only pink-ball match, a draw, against England in 2017.
India had lost the ODI series against the hosts by 2-1 but it halted the winning streak of Australia of 26 matches in the last ODI.
In test cricket, a total of 9 matches have been played between the two. While India has lost 5, the remaining 4 have gone draw.
