Death of ABAP President Mahant Giri a suicide or conspiracy?

The President of Akhil Bhartiya Akhara Parishad (ABAP) Shri Narendra Giri was found dead, according to the police “His body was found, hanging in the Sri Math at Baghambari Gaddi in Priyagraj”, senior police officers including the IG and DIG were also present to gain access over any critical information, police is further interrogating the people at Math for any suspects. “We received the information about Mahant’s suicide. IG and his team are at the spot. His disciple said that he found the door locked from inside” said Prashant Kumar

Police have conducted an initial investigation of the crime scene but there was no sign of resistance, forced entry, struggle, or un-natural movement to which a senior police officer said “In such a situation, the only possibility of foul play would be that the victim is forced to hang himself or is sedated and then hanged, the condition of the room in which the body was found hanging did not show any signs of struggle”. A fourteen-page handwritten suicide note (letter) was found in the same room, according to that Anand Giri and few others were held responsible for forcing  Mahant in the act, “If handwriting of the suicide note matches with that of Narendra Giri it will further consolidate the suicide theory” SIT chief said. Narendra Giri Ji's disciple Anand Giri and Bade Hanuman temple priest Adya Prasad Tiwari were formally arrested on charges of abetment of suicide and were presented before the Prayagraj Court after which they were sent to 14-day judicial custody, both are constantly being inquired after the letter reflected them to be responsible for compelling Narendra Giri Ji to take this step.

After the instruction of IG Prayagraj KP Singh, Mahant’s post-mortem and cremation were to be conducted on Tuesday afternoon “Nothing will be done tonight as we are waiting for the panch of the akhara to come. All examinations will be done in his presence" he said.

The body was sent to SRN hospital Prayagraj where a team of five doctors conducted an autopsy, the entire procedure was video graphed for proof, post-mortem reports showed no extra external injury marks which further gave an edge to the suicide theory, the reason for death as reflected happened due to suffocation by a nylon rope, a ‘V’ mark has been found on Mahant’s neck which is caused by hanging. The panel doctors who conducted the tests suggested waiting and preserving the body for chemical analysis, which is done to dig a bit deeper into the possible causes of death if any. SIT has also sent the nylon string which was used by the seer to allegedly hand himself in the room for forensic examination. The guards assigned for Mahant’s Y-security were also enquired in connection with the case.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered deep condolences and expressed his grief on the death of Mahant, “The death of Akhara Parishad President Shri Narendra Giri Ji is extremely sad. While devoted to spiritual traditions, he played a big role in connecting many streams of Sant Samaj together" he said.

Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath will visit Prayagraj on Tuesday morning to pay last respects to the mortal remains of Mahant Giri Ji, a meeting will also be held for the appointment of the new president of the Akhara.
