The District and Sessions Judge-8 of Dhanbad, Uttam Anand, who died in a hit-and-run case, was hit knowingly by the auto-rickshaw driver after being notified by the Central Bureau of Investigation on Thursday. He was on a morning walk in Dhanbad’s Randhir Verma Chowk on July 28 when the auto-rickshaw driver hit him from behind. After that, he was taken to the hospital where the doctors declared him dead.

Sharad Agarwal, joint director of the Central Bureau of Investigation before the division bench of Chief Justice Dr. Ravi Ranjan and Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad online said that Uttam Anand’s death was not an accident and the reason behind his death needs to be examined. Also, officers are doing their job to disclose the truth behind his death, he added. Further, he tells the court that the auto-rickshaw driver, named Lakhan Sharma, is a constant lawbreaker, as earlier he had committed many mobile thefts.

According to the judges, the death of Uttam Anand has shaken the self-esteem of the judiciary, and the core of this investigation is time. The more time is spent, the harder it will be to find out the truth, added the judges. Also, it is noticed that the police have taken up the case with the Dhanbad SSP and DGP for a speedy inquiry. Although the government decided to recommend the investigation to the CBI and put forward the case to the agency.

On August 4, CBI took the case but was unable to come to any conclusion so far. The high court has been observing the investigation done by the CBI. Also, the agency has submitted reports to the court based on their investigation into the case.
