Prime minister Narendra Modi visited Nepal and kickstarted a series of bilateral talks with the prime minister of Nepal, Sher Bahadur Deuba. Modi became the first prime minister to visit the birthplace of Gautam Buddha, Lumbini, where discussions around strengthening the partnership between India and Nepal were held.  

Statements made by Modi indicate that Nepal ought to be our kin that history talks of, therefore, he believes to bolster these ties through mutual cultural and economic support. His visit included praying at the shrine in Maya Devi temple, on the occasion of Buddha Purnima.

He also paid visits to two other sites that ought to be a part of the Buddhist circuit. The discussions also fostered the construction of the Buddhist Centre which is expected to be constructed at a cost of $1 billion. After the construction, India will join the list of countries like China, Germany, France, and the US that have already constructed their centers in Lumbini, to promote Buddhism

Benefits brought to both nations

1.Both India and Nepal have ample water resources which can be harnessed by supporting the construction of various hydropower projects with joint collaboration. This not only will strengthen monitory bonds but will also work to reduce the problems of floods and irrigation.

2.To add on, one cannot deny the security India would achieve on its 1850 km of forefront that Nepal shares with the 5 states of India.

3.The socio-cultural relations within these countries are also to get ligated with this first-hand approach from the Indian Prime Minister along with exchange of religious thoughts and pilgrims.

Nepalese prime minister, too, visited India on April 1 to April 3. The visit to India was his first foreign visit after he took charge of the position of prime minister.
