Akshay Kumar’s Sooryavanshi to release on Diwali

The film, titled Sooryavanshi, is in place for release this Diwali. The declaration came after the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Uddhav Thackeray, declared the opening of theatres on October 22, 2021. Director Rohit Shetty shared a picture with the CM of Maharashtra on his social media platform and wrote that "he is grateful to him as theatres are opening in the state. Also, this DIWALI…. AA RAHI HAI POLICE".

 Carnival Cinemas also posted a picture with Rohit Shetty on social media platforms and wrote, "Looking forward to the cinemas opening and a big screen DIWALI this year!!" The film, Sooryavanshi, features Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif in the lead and is directed by Rohit Shetty, produced by Reliance Entertainment, Rohit Shetty Picturez, Dharma Productions, and Cape of Good Films. Ajay Devgn and Rohit Shetty also appear in the film as minor characters. This is the third film in Rohit Shetty’s franchise, which is releasing on Diwali.

Sooryavanshi’s original release date was March 24, but it was delayed several times due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It was noticed that when the theatres opened at 50% occupancy last year, the team waited for the increase. The team announced the release date on April 30 when the central government declared the increase in occupancy cap this year, but the film was again postponed due to the second wave of the Covid-19. Also, Sooryavanshi was one of the films that decided to wait and release unless they took the OTT route.
