Nobel-winning Russian journalist to raise funds for Ukraine by auctioning Prize

The Norwegian Nobel Committee had decided to award the Nobel Peace Prize 2021 jointly to Dmitry Muratov, Russia and Maria Ressa, Philippines for their efforts to safeguard freedom of expression, which is a precondition for democracy and lasting peace.

Russian journalist, Dmitry Muratov who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2021 has issued a statement that he will be auctioning his gold medal to raise funds for the refugees of Ukraine. Heritage Auctions of New York will be auctioning his Peace model on June 20, which is also celebrated as World's Refugee Day.

Muratov, who was the editor of the now suspended news publication Novaya Gazeta wishes to donate the entire money from the bid to United Nations International Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF) that works to provide humanitarian and development aid to children worldwide. The Prize money of $ 5,00,000 is also reported to be given to numerous other charitable Foundations.

" One successful bidder will walk away from this auction with a gold medal representing Mr. Muratov's life work and sacrifice. Still, it is his wish that everyone participates by participating what they can to UNICEF. The goal is to use this event to foster awareness of the refugee crisis and for the giving to continue long after the auction on June 20,”the official website of auction states
