Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), the umbrella body of 40 farmer unions spearheading the agitation against the 3 farm laws, organized the Kisan  Mahapanchayat at the Government Inter College (GIC) in Muzaffarnagar today.
As per media reports, more than 15 thousand farmers gathered on the ground belonging to 300 farmer unions of 15 states.

At the Kisan Mahapanchayat

At the mahapanchayat, Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) national spokesperson, Rakesh Tikait vowed to protest against the 3 farm bills at the Delhi borders until all the demands are met by the government. "The agitation will continue until the government fulfills our demands...we will not leave the protest site there (at Delhi border) even if our graveyard is made there", said the farmers' leader.
Yogendra Yadav, Baldev Singh Rajewal, Gurnaam Singh Chadhuni, and Medha Patker were among the farmer leaders at the stage.
Yogendra Yadav accused the government of dividing people into communal lines while not hiking sugarcane prices for the past many years.
The Morcha announced the setting up of SKM in every state and district of the country and asked supporters to observe Bharat Bandh on the 27th of September instead of the 25th.
Earlier, the Morcha, in a statement, demanded the repeal of the 3 farm bills fearing these would endanger MSP and would leave farmers at the mercy of big corporates.

2022 Assembly Elections

The SKM stated that the Mahapanchayat would inaugurate 'Mission Uttar Pradesh-Uttrakhand' which would be taken down to the grassroots to ensure the defeat of the BJP regime in both states.
It is to be noted that Muzaffarnagar is the home district of Rakesh Tikait while Western UP is dominated by cane farmers. More than 100, out of 403 seats of the UP Legislative Assembly, fall in Western Uttar Pradesh. SKM leader Darshan Pal Singh announced in the mahapanchayat that the next meeting would be held in Lucknow on 9 & 10 September on sugarcane issues.
Election Pundits are speculating the effect of these meetings and the protest at the Delhi borders on the outcomes of 2022 Assembly Elections in the states of UP, Uttarakhand, and Punjab.
It has been more than 9 months since the farmers protesting against the 3 farm laws, passed by Parliament last year and stayed by the SC in January. While the government claims that these laws will help farmers better realize the price of their produce, farmers demand their repeal fearing the laws would allow private companies to exploit poor farmers.
The deadlock between the two sides could not be erased even after 10 rounds of talks, which were halted after the Republic Day violence this year.
