BENGALURU: The magisterial inquiry into the Chinnnaswamy Stadium stampede, announced by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, has got underway with Bengaluru Urban district Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesha recording the statement from the authorities of four hospitals. Notices have also been issued to 25 of the injured victims to join the investigation on June 11.
A day after the probe was ordered, the DC inspected the stadium. Interestingly, the number of injured has risen to 65, and not 45 as mentioned earlier by the CM. Eleven people had died in the stampede during the victory celebrations to mark Royal Challengers Bengaluru lift their maiden IPL trophy in Ahmedabad on June 3.
As part of the inquiry, the DC has collected information from Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital, Fortis Hospital, Manipal Hospital and Vydehi Hospital on the number of injured people who were admitted, those who were discharged and the number of deaths recorded in each of the hospitals.
So far, 65 of the injured had been discharged after treatment while two are still recovering Bowring Hospital. The magisterial inquiry will record the statements of the victims regarding how the stampede occurred, lapses, if any, among other issues.
It has also been revealed that the injured vicitms were treated at 10 hospitals. Of the 65 injured, 43 have been discharged and 10 of the 22 remaining in-patients were discharged on Friday. Twelve of the victims were treated at Vydehi Hospital, four at Manipal, five at Sparsh, five at HAL Manipal, seven at Bowring, one at Vikram, two at Fortis, one at Apollo, five at St John’s and three at Hosmat Hospital.
