Woman in illicit relationship attempts to eliminate husband, 2 children and in-laws, arrested

HASSAN: A woman attempted to kill her entire family by poisoning their food, fearing that they would come in the way of her illicit relationship, at Keralur village in Belur taluk. She has since been arrested while the police are on the trail of the paramour who is absconding.

Chaitra (33) got married to Gajendra 11 years ago and the couple have two sons. The couple was leading a normal life till three years ago when domestic disputes arose. Around this time, Chaitra got into a relationship with one Puneeth.

Gajendra, who came to know about this relationship, informed Chaitra’s parents after which both families intervened and resolved the issue. However, Chaitra got into a relationship with Shivu of the same village about a year ago, and apprehensive that her husband, children and in-laws would come to know about it, she started lacing their food with different tablets every day with an intention to kill them, police said.

Chaitra’s paramour Shivu also supported her in her plan to eliminate her family. When Gajendra fell ill, doctors told him that it seemed to be a case of food poisoning. Suspecting his wife, Gajendra checked the house and his wife’s cruel intentions were revealed. He then lodged a complaint with the police.

During questioning, Chaitra admitted to poisoning the food served to her husband, children and in-laws every day with an intention to eliminate them. Police Superintendent Mohammed Sujeetha said, “Gajendra lodged a complaint on June 2 alleging attempt to murder against his wife and Shivu. Chaitra had got into an illicit relationship and was poisoning their food, Gajendra had alleged. Preliminary investigation has revealed that Chaitra would lace their food with different types of tablets on differnt days. Chaitra has been arrested and we will arrest Shivu soon”.
