Congress to Contest UP Elections Solo, Under the leadership of Priyanka Gandhi: Salman Khurshid
Priyanka Gandhi will lead the Congress Party in the upcoming UP elections. The Party will not form an alliance with any other party. As of right now, the Congress leader has not decided who will be the Party's Chief Minister candidate.
Priyanka Gandhi visited UP for a three-day tour to assess the party's readiness for upcoming elections. However, the Party's leader made it very clear that its Chief Minister Candidate has not been decided yet, but will be announced later on. In the 2017 Assembly elections, Congress suffered an opprobrious defeat and won just seven seats out of 403.
To prepare a manifesto, the senior Congress leader visited Agra. Salman Khurshid said, “Congress will contest the upcoming UP Election alone, under the leadership of Priyanka Gandhi.” He also said that “The Party will not form an alliance with any party, we will contest the elections with firm belief.” Salman Khurshid, who visited Agra to meet people to prepare Party’s Manifesto, emphasized that this time the manifesto will include native’s problems. Party workers will visit each constituency to know about the problems of the people”, he said.
Party’s Manifesto will include problems of locals
In regards to the Manifesto, Khurshid said, “this time the Congress Manifesto wouldn't be prepared on the recommendation of experts, but rather it would contain the problems of locals.” We had also visited some other districts of UP such as Ayodhya, Jhansi, and Gorakhpur on Sunday. In my interactions with the people of Tora village, several issues were raised, such as pensions for widows and old people. Several issues were raised by the people of Agra, including the rising electricity bill.
