A six-year-old girl was raped and murdered by a thirty-year-old neighbor in Hyderabad.
The body of a minor, aged only 6, was found wrapped in a bedsheet, half-naked, with bite marks all over her body and head injuries. A search was started after the parents of the girl reported that their 6-year-old daughter is missing. Chaitra, just like any other child, liked to play with the neighbors and other children, which included her 30-year-old neighbor Raju.
Chaitra was not found in the neighborhood, and when police enquired about any suspects, her mother mentioned that Raju was also missing, which raised the doubts in the parents' minds. Taking the man as a suspect, the police broke into Raju's house and found the half-naked dead body of Chaitra, an innocent 6-year-old child wrapped in a bedsheet. Police found Chaitra's body with injuries found mainly on her head and private parts. There were bite marks all over the innocent's body. Although the body would undergo a post-mortem, police think the injuries are very deep.
When the parents were questioned, they revealed that their child's neighbor was friendly and used to give her chocolates. He took care of her and the parents trusted him. Raju, however, managed to escape and the police is searching for him.
Police regulated traffic following the news being revealed of the deed. Protesters demanded the arrest of the man who murdered Chaitra and compensation to the parents of the child. Police promised to take strict action towards providing justice to the innocent and are still looking for the missing criminal. Social media is raging over this act of cruelty. The hashtag justice for Chaitra is trending on Twitter as are videos showing off her along with her friends playing.
Even though raping is very disturbing and must be severely condemned, those who blame the act on clothes, time, etc. ought to be called into question as she was only a child. The girl was wearing clothes of her parents' choice, she was playing with someone she felt comfortable with, and it was not late at night when she was killed. The people who ignore such serious crimes pretending to go about their daily lives must be aware that they may know a potential criminal or a victim of such a crime. Before pointing fingers, we should look within ourselves and focus on our God.
Let us all commit to inculcate moral values in ourselves and the upcoming generation in order to transform this world for the better. The fact that many rape victims have not received justice or have not even filed a complaint to protect their reputations in society is truly tragic.
