The Chandra brothers have been charged with violating jail norms and running an underground office with jail staff said Delhi Prisons Authority on Wednesday.

30 jail officials were suspended:

The Delhi Prisons Authority on Wednesday said thirty jail officials were suspended as they were in close collaboration with Ajay Chandra and Sanjay Chandra, the Unitech promoters. The Chandra brothers had been arrested for siphoning home buyers’ money in 2017. Also, the Delhi police crime branch filed an fIR against the 32 jail officials and Chandra brothers under the section of the IPC and Prevention of Corruption Act on Wednesday.

On August 26 the Supreme Court directed Rakesh Asthana, Delhi Police Commissioner to inquiry about a report by the Enforcement Directorate that mentioned the Chandra brothers having a run amok and were defying the jail manual. Also, the Chandra brothers have been charged with many complaints of siphoning home buyers’ money- of involving in illegal or offensive activities by defying the jail manual, assets transfers, dissolving crime proceedings, affecting or influencing witnesses, and trying to derail the investigation.

Sandeep Goel, Director-General of Delhi Prisons on Wednesday argued we had received letters from Delhi Police that stated out of the 32 staff members, 30 are regular jail staffers while the other two are contractual employees. The 30 officials will be under suspension and the other two are terminated he added. Also, the Chandra brothers were shifted from the central jail, Tihar to Arthur Road jail and Taloja central jail in Mumbai.

Nevertheless, on September 28 the Police Commissioner presented the report mentioning the jail officials and on October 6 the Supreme Court admitted the Asthana permission to conduct a complete criminal investigation into the allegations of collusion and directed the suspension of jail officials mentioned in its report immediately.

 Also, Chinmoy Biswal, Delhi Police PRO argued we had filed an FIR under sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act and the IPC and in this matter 32 officials from Tihar jail number 32 were in close collaboration with the Chandra brothers he added.
