Eoin Morgan won the toss and chose to field in the first match at Ahemdabad. Punjab openers struggled to get a hold of the ball from the very start. Both the openers hit some boundaries but still was not able to score big. Rahul was dismissed after hitting one six & two fours on 19 off 20 balls; Mayank managed to score 31 off 34 after some struggle, but Narine got the better of him. Universe boss(Gayle) was left contemplating when he nicked the first ball he faced by Shivam Mavi, after taking the review he was given out. When Pooran finally started to get his timing back, he was deceived by Varun's magnificent spin bowling, who removed Pooran on 19. After a cameo of 30 off 18 deliveries by Chris Jordan, PBKS reached a fair score of 123 for 9. The Indian triplets in the KKR bowling unit bowled exceptionally well tonight. Their bowling figures were: Prasidh Krishna 3-30, Shivam Mavi 1-13 &, Varun Chakravarthy 24-1.

While chasing, KKR could not have had the worst start to their innings. They lost Nitish Rana for a duck in the first over and Shubman Gill in the second over, who was plumb in front of the stumps. Rahul Tripathi looked good as he batted on the merit and did not try to go for any foolish strike. Skipper Morgan joined him when Sunil Narine was dismissed for zero by a brilliant running catch taken by Ravi Bishnoi. Tripathi got out after making a significant contribution of 41 runs off 32 balls. Morgan, with his unbeaten 47, fulfilled his responsibility as the captain. In the end, Dinesh Karthik, with his contribution of 12 runs, made sure to sail past the target and earn crucial 2 points in the race of the top four. With this win, KKR moves to 5th place from the bottom.
