Delhi Capitals win IPL 2021 first Super Over against Sunrisers Hyderabad
DC won from SRH in super over even after composed batting by Williamson, who stayed not out on 66 off 51 at the end.
DC skipper Rishabh Pant chose to bat on a pitch that is best to bat on at the start of the game. And DC's openers gave a fiery birth to their innings, with Shaw smashing 3 fours in a row from the very first ball. Shaw realised the nature of the pitch early, and he hit a big shot even on a good ball. Shikhar rotated the strike well and guided DC to 51/0 at the end of the powerplay. In the middle of the innings, DC had reached 80/0, with Shaw hitting a half-century off 35 balls. Both the openers were dismissed in successive overs at the score: Dhawan 28(26) & Shaw 53(39). Pant came at 1st down and took charge from there and hit 5 boundaries, including a six and made 37 off 27 balls. He again tried to go for a big one but was caught by Suchith in front of Square. With Steve Smith's contribution of 34 runs, Delhi reached a respectable total of 159 for 4.
SRH bowlers did everything they could, from an off-cutter to leg-spin, and taking the pace of the ball. But when they got a chance of a wicket, their fielders disappointed and left the captain David Warner furious.
Sunrisers lost their captain Warner to a Rabada throw which he could not manoeuvre at the start of the chase when Bairstow was hitting DC bowlers from the other end. Bairstow was removed after scoring 38 off 18 deliveries just before the end of the powerplay by Avesh Khan. Then the most dependable batsman Kane Williamson arrived at the crease who held the helm of the Sunrisers chase. Since Kane was brought into the team, he has tried to cover the flaws in SRH's middle order. But these things are not easy to hide in sports. The 5 batsmen who came in to bat after Williamson were not able to score even 10 runs. Full marks to the Delhi bowlers who completely dislodged the fragile middle order of SRH. Axar Patel, who was playing his match after recovering from covid, produces a brilliant performance. He ended with the bowling figures of 2-26 and gave away only 7 runs in the Super Over. After winning the super over, DC moves to 2nd place, beating RCB on Net Run Rate.
The 1st phase of venues ends in Chennai with an exciting game on a pitch that troubled even the best players.
