Royal Challengers Bangalore taste their first defeat of the season against Chennai Super Kings
CSK won by 69 runs against RCB at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
It was a day game in Mumbai, and CSK skipper MS Dhoni elected to bat after winning the toss. Both the teams made two changes in the squad.
CSK's openers started well and shared a stand of 74 runs. Gaikwad was removed by Chahal at 33(25) when he tried to go for a slog sweep six. Faf du Plessis continued and reached his half-century in 40 balls, dismissed on the next ball of Harshal Patel. Raina came in and hit 3 massive sixes in his short stay of 24(18). Rayudu also fell on 14 after smashing a huge six. But Sir Jadeja proved to be the star performer of the match who had all his luck in his pockets. Dan Christian dropped him on zero, and at the end of the first innings, he ended with 62 runs off 28 balls, hammered Patel for 37 runs in the last over with his humongous 5 sixes & a four. Before the 20th over, Patel's bowling figures were 3-14, and after the end of it, they were 3-51. After Jadeja's firework, CSK set a big target of 192 to chase for RCB.
While chasing 192, RCB were going very well until the start of the 4th over when they lost skipper Kohli; RCB were 44-1 in 3.1 overs. After then they kept losing wickets in short intervals. Padikkal got out in the next over after scoring a quickfire 34 off 15 deliveries. Sir Jadeja's show was not just restricted to the first innings. The all-rounder added three important names to his wickets tally and also ran out Dan Christian.
With Maxwell and de Villiers gone, the target continued to get harder to achieve. Ultimately, with some exemplary bowling efforts by Imran Tahir(2-16) and Shardul Thakur(1-11), RCB was restricted at 122/9 and lost by 69 runs. CSK earns two points and moves to the top of the table after their colossal victory over RCB.
