RR won the toss on a decided to bowl. Samson wouldn't have thought the Wankhede pitch will turn out to be like this before the first innings. But he read the game well and managed the bowlers accordingly. KKR were 25/1 after the end of the powerplay, losing opener Gill after a poorly judged run on a nudge. Then Tripathi came in; he rotated the strike well but soon lost his partner Rana, dismissed by young left-arm pacer Sakaria for 22(25). Narine was sent before Morgan, but he left after facing 7 balls, scoring 6 runs by a perfect catch taken by Jaiswal off Unadkat. It was a night to forget for KKR captain Morgan, who got out for a diamond duck when the ball deflected off his bat, and he was run out when Tripathi sent him back. Tripathi's brave knock of 36(26) came to an end when he tried to go for a big shot off Mustafizur slower delivery to raise the game's tempo.  RR's best bowler of the night kept the big hitters like Russell, Karthik and Cummins quiet by dismissing all of them. He ended his spell with the figures of 4-23. KKR was able to put on a respectable total of 133/9 in the end.

In the second innings, Yashasvi Jaiswal, who replaced Manan Vohra, was dropped in the very first over of the match by Gill. Jos Buttler, who's failing to score big, was dismissed by a sharp turning googly off Varun Chakravarthy. In the next over, Jaiswal also fell, caught at cover point by Nagarkoti. Samson realised it early that he needs to last until the match is won, so he batted with composure to take his team home with his unbeaten 42(41). Other batsmen like Shivam Dube and David Miller also contributed towards victory with the score of 22(18) and 24(23) not out.
In the KKR bowling department, Shivam Mavi particularly hit the right areas & received great help from the pitch. He gained bowling figures of 1-19. Sunil Narine did not take a wicket but tried to save as many runs as possible and went for only 20 runs in his 4 overs.
KKR is left at the bottom of the table after losing 4 matches back-to-back.
