MATCH PREVIEW : MANCHESTER UNITED VS WOLVES 23/5/2021
United the underdogs against Wolves in the final fixture of their season
Manchester United go into this fixture as underdogs - a statement you would expect against them in a game like a Champion's League Final against a side like Real Madrid, not a midday fixture against Wolves. But alas this is what the situation is right now.
Winless in their last three games, with a draw to relegated Fulham being the latest dagger, United lay in absolute tatters going into the final game of the season. A disheveled CB partnership, Scott McTominay injured and a misfiring front line all add up to a team that is strong only on paper, but extremely weak both mentally and in the results they're putting out.
Wolves on the other hand, never make it easy for their opposition. A counter attacking side who operate in a deep block, they're absolute Kryptonite for a side like United who struggle to weave defences open, and that is when they're on good form, let alone the current situation. Moreover, youngster Fabio Silva has begun to gain momentum, which could spell further diseaster for the already bumbling United backline.
I'll be honest here, I don't expect this to be an entertaining affair. United are stale and Wolves are pragmatic, this eventually equates a game which trods along rather than runs at pace. Add to this the fact that both teams would be exhausted by this point in the season and this is mostly going to end up being a hard to watch 90 minutes. Hopefully I'm wrong.
EXPECTED LINEUPS:
MUN - Henderson, Wan Bissaka, Bailly, Tuanzebe, Shaw, Fred, Matic, Bruno, Pogba, Rashford, Greenwood
WOL - Patricio, Coady, Saiss, Marcal, Semedo, Dendoncker, Moutinho, Neves, Vitinha, Traore, Silva
