India’s new guidelines for international visitors
The Indian government has issued new travel guidelines for anyone visiting the country.
The Government of India has recently updated its travel guidelines for international visitors, the people travelling from specific countries would have to go through a mandatory quarantine because of the new threat of Delta variant of Covid-19 Virus.
It has been almost two years since the world is exposed to the Covid-19 virus and as India has already suffered a blow from the virus as 2nd wave, the government has to protect its citizens from the death count again.
In the same thread, the Health Ministry of India has issued new guidelines that include a mandatory RT-PCR test report that the person shall carry and another set of tests would be conducted for people who are visiting from high-risk zones.
The countries that are kept on the red list are the United Kingdom, South Africa, Brazil, Bangladesh, Botswana, China, Mauritius, New Zealand, and Zimbabwe.
The news agency ANI tweeted the same, tweet; it explained the procedure that needs to be followed with the help of a flow chart.
Why the strict rules:
The new travel guidelines are specifically made to prevent the spread of the Delta variant of the Covid-19 virus, this variant is at its peak in the United Kingdom as from after 11th October 2021 more than 40 thousand cases of this variant are detected every day in the country.
The cases in UK are at constant hike even when half of the population of the Kingdom is vaccinated and booster doses are provided to those who have already received their second dose with a gap of 3-4 months.
The previous guideline:
In the previous guidelines the Indian government imposed strict rules on those who are coming from the UK, according to the previous Indian guideline; anyone who was travelling from the United Kingdom to India had to go through mandatory 10-day quarantine regardless of their vaccination status.
Regarding same the Health Ministry will apply strict guidelines on the people travelling from UK only, all the states and union territories with international airports that might receive flights from UK have also been alerted, the integrated disease surveillance programme officers of various states have also been assigned to monitor the people in quarantine and conduct test on the 8th day, all the port health organisations and airport health organizations have also been alerted as they will play a critical role in the implementation of the rules at ground level.
Writer’s note:
The condition of the UK is alarming considering its small population if compared to a country like India; it is a rightful act of the Indian government to make strict travel rules for the people visiting the country.
Previously quarantine rule was applied only to the ones travelling from the UK while the people visiting from other countries just had to show their vaccination certificate so thus there was a diplomatic answer to why only travellers from the UK had to go through quarantine but now looks like it was the right step by the government all along.
