Chennai Super Kings won by 18 runs in a high scoring thriller against Kolkata Knight Riders in Mumbai. It was a fantastic overall team performance.
Just like the other captains, Eoin Morgan also chose to bowl on this good batting track of Mumbai. Teams had won 4 out of 6 matches while chasing before this match. CSK had a fierce start to their innings, with both their opener coming to form. Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 64(42), Faf du Plessis fell 5 runs short of his century and stayed not out at the end that helped CSK put a big total on board. Except for Varun Chakravarthy(1-27) and Sunil Narine(1-34), all the bowlers were hammered by the CSK batters.
In the second innings, Deepak Chahar did the same thing that he did against Punjab Kings. He destroyed KKR's top & middle order and earned the best bowling figures of the match, 4 for 29. Due to Chahar & Ngidi bowling, KKR were 31 for 5 inside powerplay and then entered Andre Russell, who was at his ball-crushing best and made a quickfire 54 off 22 balls at a strike rate of 245. Cummins walked in when Russell got out; Karthik also fell after him. Then Cummins hammered a 23 ball fifty, and he was unbeaten till the end. The Super Kings had put too many and took many wickets upfront, as a heroic chase ended with the Knight Riders all out for 202 in 19.1 overs.
With this win, Super Kings climb to the top of the table because of a better run rate than other teams equal on points.
